The IMG 1010 Streamlines Networks and Reduces Up-Front Costs
The IMG 1010 integrates SS7 signaling, VoIP, and routing into a
single 1u chassis, replacing three network elements: the SS7
Signaling Server, the Trunking Gateway, and the Gatekeeper. The IMG
1010 combines the SS7 Signaling Server and Trunking Gateway
functionality in one intelligent gateway, and with Excel’s built in
routing technology, a separate VoIP Gatekeeper becomes optional.
Each IMG 1010 supports 20 route tables with 10,000 entries each.
Each IMG 1010 can control SS7 Voice Circuits (CICs) on 31 other IMGs.
Excel’s GateControl Element Management System (EMS) can manage a
network of up to 250 individual gateways.

EMS Means Faster Time to Market
The IMG 1010 and the GateControl EMS are designed to work together
to minimize operational costs and make it easier to manage VoIP
gateways. By leveraging the centralized, GUI-based architecture of
GC EMS, providers can manage their entire gateway network from a
single location with a single, easy-to-use GUI. This feature
dramatically simplifies operations by reducing the number of systems
providers have to manage, which speeds time to market and reduces
costs. The GC EMS also eliminates the need for expensive craft
visits normally required for scaling and upgrading. The combination
of the IMG 1010 and the GC EMS significantly reduces the time,
effort, and expense of deploying new services.

Design
A carrier-grade gateway means more than having a hot-swappable fan
tray. It means cost-effectively scaling the system to hundreds of
T1/E1 spans while maintaining a simple management interface. It
means having 1+1 hot standby support. It's the ability to grow and
upgrade systems without taking them out of service. It's separating
transport, signaling, and OAM&P to reduce susceptibility to
intruders and to ensure better system performance. On all counts,
